The Nuit du Hack 2012 received more than 1200 visitors last saturday for talks, workshops and contests. We want to thank every hacker, geek and curious who came to this tenth edition of our event.
As announced during the night, our public wargame suffered from technical problems partly due to our wireless network and to Internet access (our ISP's router was not correctly configured) but also from some filtering rules set on our firewalls.
We apologize to everyone who made the trip to participate to our public wargame and now announce that it will be available online from the 29th of June 0600pm (Paris Time, UTC +0200) to the 1st of July 0600pm. The winner will be rewarded with an Immunity Canvas 1-year licence. We sincerely hope you will enjoy this wargame.
Our CTF challenge received 62 people coming from 13 teams (one team, ForbiddenBits, could not made the trip to Paris from Tunisia and another one did not check in). The CTF started at 0900pm on saturday, and first flags were captured around 1000pm, HackerDom taking the leadership. Other teams followed them and captured some flags whereas others were targeted by network attacks and lost points.
Eventually, a team exploited a vulnerability on every team's server that caused a massive breakdown around 0440:am on sunday, so organizers chose to pause the game since they have no information on the nature of the problem. They checked every system's integrity and tried to bring back every system, in vain. In order to be fair with all teams, they decided to stop the CTF and let each team validate its last captured flags, since the time required to identify the problem and to fix it would have been greater than the remaining time (2 hours). The final ranking was made : HackerDom won the first place with 4960 points, followed by w3pwnz (4250 points) and LSE (2210 points).
We wish to thank all our sponsors and everyone who contribued in a way or another to the workshops, all our speakers and ghosts who helped us a lot during the event. We also wish to thank Disney for their reactivity and especially Marc, our dedicated steward who made a great work .
We hope to see you as many if not more next year, around brand new talks and workshops and contests !
